Paolo Ognibene is Senior assistant professor at the Department of Cultural Heritage. He holds a degree in Languages (thesis in L-LIN/21) and in Oriental History (thesis in L-OR/14), a PhD from DiSMEC (thesis in L-OR/14), a post-doc in L-OR/14 with research on personal names in Scythian, and was a research fellow from 2010 to 2017 (Outer Iran; ethno-linguistic ecumene of Northeastern Iran; the Magi in Christian traditions of the Caucasus and ancient Slavia; Pontic onomastics). He was adjunct professor at the University of Bologna (L-OR/14 and L-OR/13) from 2004 to 2015; qualified as associate professor in 10-N/1 (ASN 2012 and ASN 2016), qualified as full professor in 10-N/1 (ASN 2021). Resident Corresponding Academician (Class of Moral Sciences, I Section - History and Philology) of the Academy of Sciences of Bologna Institute from 2023; He has been Secretary of IsIAO Emilia-Romagna from 2002 to 2011 and Secretary of the Courses for Peace Operators in the Province of Ravenna from 2004 to 2011. He was a member of the board of the Italian Association for Central Asian and Caucasian Studies from 2016 to 2019. He was the project coordinator of the European project “Integrated Italy-Japan Exchange Project”. He participated in five expeditions to the Yaghnob Valley. His research interests include nomadism, Outer Iran, Northeastern Iranian languages, Caucasian and Paleosiberian languages.
