Prof. Paolo Gionchetti was born in Cosenza on 30-09-1957
Full Professor of Internal Medicine
He obtained the Medical Degree and Doctoral Thesis on 1982 with
full marks and honours, at the University of Bologna.
From October 1983 to July 1988 he attended the Postgraduate
Medical School of Internal Medicine at the University of Bologna
and graduated with full marks and honours.
From October 1988 to July 1992 he attended the Postgraduate
Medical School of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the
University of Bologna and graduated with full marks and
honours.
As soon as he graduated he was admitted as internal doctor to
the Institute of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology taking
active part in the research group on Inflammatory Bowel Disease,
performing clinical work and having teaching responsibilities for
medical students.
From January to December 1987 has worked in the Gastroenterology
Unit at Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford, under the guidance of Dr.
D.P.Jewell.
He acted in the capacity of Registrar and attended wards rounds,
out-patients clinics, seminars and endoscopy sessions. He was
therefore trained in both diagnosis and managements of
gastroenterological patients. He made studies on lymphocyte and
macrophage populations on IBD patients, participating in writing
several scientific papers.
He's now Associate Professor at the Dept. Medical and
Surgical Sciences of the University of Bologna, and he works
in the IBD Unit .
He's teacher of Internal Medicine at the Postgraduate School of
Internal Medicine.
He' teacher of Gastroenterology at Corso di Laurea in
Infermieristica
He's member of the Italian Society of Gastroenterology and of
the International Society of Mucosal Immunology, British Society of
Gastroenterology.
He' member of Editorial board of International J of Prob and
Preb and of World Journal of Gastroenterology
He has been speaker in several national and international
meetings and he's author and co-author of more than 400 scientific
reports particularly on the field of IBD.
He's member of the GUICOM Committee of ECCO
