Former Position:Full Professor of Statistics, University of Bologna, 1986- ; Vice Rector University of Bologna, Dean of Faculty (1994-2000, 2004-2007), Director of Ph.D. in Statistics (1990-94), Director of the Master on Biostatistics (2001-04), Assistant Professor in Statistics (1969-1972); Associate Professor (1982-1986).

Member of the Educational Committee of the Conference of the Rectors of the Italian Universities.

Academic Distinctions and Fellowships: Co-Editor of Statistica; Member of the Editorial Board of the Studies in  Classification, Data analysis and Knowledge Organization of the Springer-Verlag; Member of 1-Biometric Society, 2-International Statistical Institute, 3-Italian Statistical Society, 4-Italian Society of Classification, 5-Academie of Science of Bologna Institute.

Scientific interest: the main research topics, with regard to both theoretical and applied aspects, deal with the statistical inference methods and the models for the analysis of multivariate data. In the recent years, the research interests has been devoted to solve the principal problems regarding the evolution of the university and educational system by means of the Generalized Linear Latent and Mixed Models (GLLAMM) and particularly of structural equation models.

Scientific Publications: more than 100 papers on scientific journals and proceedings, 6 specialized and monographic books.
