Ottavio Lovece is a PhD student in Philosophy, Science, Cognition, and Semiotics, 39th cycle, at the University of Bologna, in the academic field M-FIL/06 - History of Philosophy.
His research focuses in particular on the philosophy of John Stuart Mill. His doctoral dissertation, entitled The Phenomenistic Roots of J.S. Mill's Psychologism, aims to clarify the historical and philosophical conditions that form the theoretical background to the psychologistic orientation of Mill's philosophy, with particular attention to the relationship between phenomenalism and empiricist epistemology that emerges within this context.
During his PhD, he carried out research stays at the Centre d'histoire des philosophies modernes de la Sorbonne, Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, where he was a visiting doctoral student in 2025, from January to July, and in 2026, from March to June.
His interests concern the history of modern philosophy, especially the developments of theories of knowledge and language from early modernity onward.
