Short Bio

Nicolò Fasola is Roberto Ruffilli Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor of Russian foreign policy at the University of Bologna. His current areas of interest are: Russian military thought; Russia's foreign policy; as well as NATO's defence and cooperative security policies.

Dr Fasola holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham. He was adjunct professor at the University of Salford, and a visiting researcher at Saint Petersburg State University, IFSH and GIGA in Hamburg, and ISPI in Milan.

Moreover, Dr Fasola was an Eisenhower Fellow at the NATO Defense College and served at NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. In 2025-26 he contributed research-driven analysis to the Russia Strategic Initiative -- an agency within the US EUCOM/Department of War.

In 2025, Dr Fasola was nominated as one of the most promising early career researchers in the Social Sciences by the Higher Academy of Sciences. In addition to Italian, he speaks English and Russian.
