Short Bio

Full Professor of General Physics at the University of Bologna, he carries out his research in the field of elementary particle physics.

He is currently a member of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva and is the co-author of over 1,200 publications in international journals (Scopus h-index = 118; Google Scholar h-index = 208).

He has received the “Pietro Bassi” Prize from the Italian Physical Society for “his contributions to meson spectroscopy,” and the 2013 HEPP Prize (High Energy and Particle Physics Prize) from the European Physical Society, as a member of the ATLAS collaboration for the discovery of the Higgs boson.

He has served as a Member of the Board of the Alma Mater Foundation, a Senator of the University of Bologna, and Director of the Department of Physics and Astronomy ‘Augusto Righi’ from 2015 to 2021.

He recently conceived and coordinated the creation of Fisica Experience, an innovative museum dedicated to the exploration of the concepts of space and time, which is part of the University Museum System, where he also serves as Scientific Director.
