Vision-to-ECU System Design and Setup for Predictive Road Comfort Intelligence

Modena, Italy · Engineering– EHE · Up to 80% remote work available

Turn road perception into predictive comfort intelligence

Join Maserati Engineering to develop a Proof of Concept that transforms forward-facing camera video into ECU-consumable signals for predictive comfort and chassis applications.

Your thesis project

Contribute to the development of an end-to-end Vision-to-ECU architecture: camera-video acquisition, offline replay, perception algorithms, engineering-signal generation and validation.

Main activities

• Road segmentation, hazard detection, and classification

• Distance, confidence and severity estimation

• Generation of ECU-ready outputs, including Road Roughness Index, Pothole Risk, Hazard Distance, Time to Impact, Recommended Damping, and Comfort Score

• KPI-based validation focusing on accuracy, latency, detection range, distance error, and signal stability

• Definition of an integration roadmap for HIL and CAN/CAN-FD/Ethernet vehicle networks

Who we are looking for

Master's students in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Computer Vision, or related disciplines.

Core competencies

1. Computer Science / Computer Engineering

2. Electronics

3. Computer vision

Preferred additional competency

Control Systems, with an interest in predictive comfort and chassis-control applications.

Technical skills

Python, OpenCV, PyTorch, YOLO-based object detection, image and video processing, dataset evaluation, Git, Linux, data analysis and visualisation. Preferred knowledge: MATLAB/Simulink, CAN/CAN-FD, Ethernet, dSPACE/HIL or embedded-system deployment.

Languages

Italian (native proficiency) and English (B2 level or higher).

What you will gain

Hands-on experience in automotive vision architectures, AI-based perception, dataset development, ECU-ready signal generation, validation workflows, and predictive chassis-control applications.
