The research activity of Pinardi is centered around several themes:
1) ocean predictions;
2) numerical ocean modelling, data assimilation and forecast uncertainty estimates;
3) development of unstructured grid models and coupling with hydrology;
4) study of the large scale circulation and mesoscale processes in the Mediterranean Sea;
5) numerical modelling of the marine ecosystem ( see Biogeochemical flux model);
6) oil spill modelling and hazard mapping (see Numerical Oil Spill Model)
7) relocatable and limited area modelling for Forecasting (see SURF)
