Short Bio

Muhammad Shahbaz is a full-time PhD researcher in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Bologna, where he is pursuing a doctoral degree in Automotive Engineering for Intelligent Mobility. He is a recipient of the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network fellowship under the Laser4NetZero project.

His research focuses on the development and optimization of laser-based manufacturing technologies for lithium-ion battery production, with particular emphasis on laser drying of battery electrodes for next-generation electric vehicles. His PhD project combines multiphysics modeling, numerical simulation, and experimental validation to investigate heat and mass transfer, solvent evaporation, binder migration, and process optimization. Using advanced simulation tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics, origion, MATLAB and FLOW-3D, his work aims to enhance manufacturing efficiency, improve electrode quality, reduce energy consumption, and support the transition toward sustainable battery production for electric mobility.
