Short Bio

Michele Lussu is a researcher at the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences of the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. His work focuses on botany, biogeography, plant ecology and conservation biology, with particular attention to wild orchids, which he studies as a model group to understand plant diversity, distribution, endemicity, rarity and vulnerability. He obtained a European PhD from the University of Cagliari and a Master of Research in Biosystematics from the Natural History Museum and Imperial College London. His research combines field data, biodiversity databases, GIS tools and macroecological analyses to identify biodiversity hotspots and conservation priorities. He is a Board Member of the Society for Conservation Biology Europe and Secretary of the Society for Conservation Biology Italy Chapter.
