Short Bio

Michele Colombo has been a professor at the University of Bologna since 2025. He studied in Milan, Pisa, London, and Leuven, and he was Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at Saarland University. From 2019 to 2025 he was full professor of Italian Linguistics at the Department of Romance Studies and Classics at Stockholm University, Sweden. From 2003 to 2019 he was adjunct, assistant and associate professor of Italian Linguistics at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan and Brescia. From 2014 to 2019 he worked with the Accademia dei Lincei to organize training courses for Italian language teachers in Brescia. He also coordinated two Winter schools on the same subject in Milan. He has been a visiting professor in Hungary, Russia, and Italy, and has figured as speaker at numerous conventions in and outside Italy. He has published various articles, essays and monographs on the history of the Italian language and dialects from the 14th century to the present day. He has also published a handbook on techniques for learning to write and a dictionary of Italian word families (co-edited with Paolo D’Achille). Go to the Curriculum vitae
