Keywords: Electrical Machines Thermal analysis CFD Cooling Radial Flux Machines Axial Flux Machines

Michelangelo Raimondo's main research topic is the thermal design of electrical machines for automotive application. The interest in this topic is constantly growing among the machine designers since a proper thermal design allows to increase the power density of the machine leading to the reduction of its dimensions. The thermal study of a machine is strictly connected to the development of innovative cooling systems which must be able to extract the maximum heat quantity from the hot spots. This research is applied both on radial flux machines and axial flux machines with a focus on magnets-free topologies. The research is carried out thanks to FEM modeling applied on fluid dynamics and thermal analysis.
