Full Professor at the University of Bologna, she conducts her research in the field of the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) and the mechanisms that attenuate the signaling pathway activated by this receptor, which is responsible for the homeostasis of epithelial tissues. Her research interests focus particularly on the transcriptional mechanisms regulating the positive and negative feedback loops of EGFR and its interaction with steroid hormones and inflammatory cytokines. She contributed to the development of the hypothesis of a circadian regulation of tyrosine kinase receptors. Currently, her research focuses on the role of a panel of inflammatory cytokines responsible for cellular senescence and the lack of response to EGFR inhibition in pathological systems, as well as, more broadly, on the role of RTKs in controlling nuclear morphology and consequent cell migration.
