Matteo Romandini (PhD) is a Senior Assistant Professor (RTT Tenure Track) in Zoology and Anthropology – Scientific Disciplinary Sector 05/BIOS-03/B, specializing in archaeozoology, osteoarchaeology, and taphonomy.
He trained at the University of Ferrara and has been affiliated with the Department of Cultural Heritage at the University of Bologna since 2017. Over 18 years of academic career, he has participated in and/or coordinated research projects focused on human settlement in Italy during the Paleolithic.
The main topics of his research are the bio-cultural relationship between Neanderthals and Homo sapiens and the subsistence strategies of Upper Paleolithic, Late Glacial, and early Holocene hunter-gatherers.For many years he directed archaeological and scientific research at the Paleolithic sites of Riparo del Broion, Buso Doppio del Broion, Col della Stria (VI), and Grotta del Rio Secco (PN).
From 2013 to 2026 he served as scientific director and curator of the Archaeological and Naturalistic Museum of the Pradis Cave (Clauzetto, PN).
