Matteo Marinello is a post-doc researcher at the Department of the Arts, University of Bologna, where he is a member of the research projects Circulating Populist Sentiments in 21st Century Film and TV Fiction in Italy (Prin 2022) and ATlas - Atlas of Local Televisions (Prin 2020). After graduating in history at the University of Padua (2020), he obtained his PhD in Visual, Performing and Media Arts at the University of Bologna (2023), with a research on the relationship between comedy and politics in Italian television in the 1970s. His studies therefore move between cultural, media and political history, with a focus on comedy, entertainment and television production.
He is the author of several essays on these topics and a monograph titled Backstage all’Italiana. Television, comedy and the national imagination in ‘Boris’, the series (Infinito Edizioni, 2022). Since 2023 he teaches history and theory of television at the University of Bari and at the University of Padua.
