Curriculum vitae

Current Position.

Matilde Ratti is Senior Researcher in Private Law (IUS/01) at the Department of Legal Sciences, University of Bologna.

She qualified as an associate professor and lawyer at the Bologna Bar Association.

She teaches the “Big Data (privacy)” Course, the “Internet Law and Social Media” Laboratory in the Department of Legal Sciences and the "Internet Law" Course in the Department of Science and Engineering at the University of Bologna. She teaches the "Private Law" Course at the University of Bologna in the academic year 2023-2024. She coordinates the module “The Processing of Personal Data in the Enterprise” of the master’s degree “Personal Data Processing and Data Protection Officer” at the University of Bologna.

She has been Visiting researcher at Unidroit (International Institute for the Unification of Private Law) focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Civil Liability. She has worked with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (Uncitral) in Vienna.

She is responsible for the legal area of the “Edith” and “Dare” projects, and for an “Almaidea” grant, dealing with the legal implications concerning artificial intelligence and data processing with regard to prevention and scientific research in the medical field. She collaborates in the “Alma Health DB” project on data sharing for scientific research and in the Prin project “Cura” in which she studies the implications of using artificial intelligence.

Matilde Ratti has collaborated on the following research projects:

- Alma Health DB (20222 - Today) as Head for the legal area. She carries out research activities regarding the privacy and civil liability implications with regard to the creation of a database containing the health data of patients of healthcare facilities and of the University of Bologna.

- Edith (2022 - Today) as Head for the legal area. She carries out research activities regarding the implications related to civil liability and privacy enforcement arising from the use of artificial intelligence in scientific research.

- DARE (2022 – Today) as Head for the legal area. She studies the legal implications arising from the activities of the consortium with regard to medical prevention and scientific research in the medical field, with a particular focus on the application of privacy regulations and the use of artificial intelligence.

- Alma Idea (2022 - Today) as coordinator of the project. She analyses the implications arising from the use of artificial intelligence in the world of work taking into account the protection of personal data and the employer’s civil liability.

- Prinn (2022 - Today). She studies the implications of children's use of artificial intelligence with the purpose of spreading awareness to protect, promote and enforce the fundamental rights of children in the digital environment.

- The Web and the “trilogy” of identity, as member of the scientific committee of the research project under the Institute for Advanced Studies - ISA Topic 2019 grant.

- Digital Innovation and the Law (2022), as Scientific Director in collaboration with The European Law Student Association.

- The discipline of e-commerce in the context of the European Union and the People's Republic of China (2015), where she conducted a comparative analysis as part of the Alma Idea “Grant Linea Senior”.
