Matilde Cazzola completed her undergraduate degree in History (2012) and her Master's degree in History and Political Thought (2015) at the University of Bologna. She earned her PhD in History of Political Thought from the same institution in 2019. In the academic year 2019-2020, Matilde was a postdoctoral fellow at the Luigi Einaudi Foundation in Turin and the Edith Saurer Fonds in Vienna. From October 2020 until the end of 2024, she was a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in Frankfurt am Main, where she was part of the research group in "Legal transfer in the common law world". In January 2025, Matilde joined the Department of History and Cultures as tenure-track researcher. She is, moreover, an affiliate researcher of the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory and leader of the Max Planck Partner Group between the Bologna Department of History and Cultures and the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory (2026-2030).
