Associate professor at University of Bologna (SSD. AGR/03) 1998-2007. From 2007 he is professor at the Free University of Bolzano-Bozen where he teaches Fundamentals of Tree Science, Horticultural crop ecosystems and Orchard and Vineyard Management. Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology from 2008 to 2014. Main research interests: tree eco-physiology and water, nutrient and carbon fluxes in tree ecosystems. He has published about 200 papers, 60 of them in peer reviewed Journals. Member of the editorial board of the Eur.J Agron. and Tree Phys. Has served as editor of the Journal of the Italian Society for Horticultural science from 2005 to 2013. Chairman of the WG on Mineral Nutrition of Fruit Crops of the International Society for Horticultural Science. He has organized several international and national conferences. From 2016, he has been appointed as vice/president of the private research Center “EURAC” of Bolzano. President of the Italian Society for Horticultural Science.
