My PhD focuses on the Free Trade Agreements concluded by the European Union with third countries, especially developing countries from the Global South, in an attempt to reconfigure them as useful tools for achieving the SDGs set by the United Nations in the 2030 Agenda. Within this framework, various topics are analysed: the balance between the right to sustainable development and (private and/or public) commercial interests; new economic opportunities in the renewable energy market; the relationship between competition and environmental sustainability; the principles and values underlying the Common Commercial Policy of the EU; the structure and purposes of EU FTAs; the investor-state dispute settlement mechanism - just to name a few.
