Marica Tolomelli

Her main research areas focused on women's labour history, labour movement, social protest and social movements with regard to the formation of political cultures in particular in Italy and in Germany. Another field of research concerns the formation and transformation processes of the public sphere and the public communication in Europe during the XX century in relation to social as well as technological changes.  
Further research interests focus on the history of social conflicts and collective action in the 20th century, with particular attention to class and gender dimensions. Her work examines the construction of social and political solidarity networks, as well as the forms and practices of communicative action, from transnational and global perspectives. She participated in the PRIN project "How Communism went global: Building connections between Soviet, European, and African communists, 1920s to 1960s" (2020–2023). From 2025 to 2028, she is participating in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Staff Exchanges project "Activate: the activist, the archivist and the researcher – Novel collaborative strategies of transnational research, archiving and exhibiting social and political dissent in Europe (19th–21st centuries)"; within this framework, she is working on the interactions between feminist movements and UN World Conferences on Women.
