Prof Maria Ida Gobbini studied Medicine and Surgery (summa cum laude) at the University of Florence (Italy), completed the specialty in Neurology at the University of Florence (Italy) and received her PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Pisa (Italy). She has conducted research at the NIH (National Institute of Health) -at the NINDS and the NIMH, Bethesda, MD, USA; at the Department of Psychology of Princeton University (Princeton, NJ, USA); and at Dartmouth College (Hanover, NH, USA).
Her research investigates face perception and recognition, and individual differences in cognitive functions.
She has conducted psychophysics and neuroimaging research to investigate face perception, identity and emotion recognition, the effect of learning associated with face familiarity, the neural correlates of face recognition, representation of familiar others, and the role played by retrieval of person knowledge.
