Marco Viceconti is a Full Professor of Bioengineering (IBIO-01/A) at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Bologna. Before joining UNIBO, he founded and then directed the Medical Technology Laboratory of the IRCCS Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute and worked as a Full Professor at the University of Sheffield (UK), where he founded and directed for 7 years the prestigious research institute on in silico medicine, Insigneo. Marco Viceconti is an expert in neuromusculoskeletal biomechanics. Prof. Viceconti is one of the key figures in the international community of so-called "in silico medicine": he founded the VPH Institute (now VPH Society) and contributed to the establishment of the Avicenna Alliance. He is one of the 25 members of the World Council of Biomechanics and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the United Kingdom. According to SCOPUS, he has published 442 papers (H-index = 62).
