The principal research lines focus on vaccination, with particular emphasis on safety profiles and the comparative assessment of immunization strategies. Epidemiological analyses and cross-sectional studies investigate the drivers of vaccine hesitancy and quantify the effectiveness of both routine and mass-campaign immunizations in terms of coverage across the general population, targeted subgroups, and “hard-to-reach” cohorts. These insights underpin the creation of predictive models and the formulation of evidence-based guidelines for regional and local vaccination policies.

In the realm of infectious-disease surveillance, advanced methodological frameworks are employed to integrate and analyse diverse data streams. Syndromic surveillance systems have been developed, and under-reporting is quantified through statistical estimation models, all with the goal of enhancing data accuracy and enabling timely public-health responses.

A further research strand examines health promotion as a catalyst for community-level change. Mixed-methods investigations in educational settings—encompassing evaluations of the Health Promoting Schools network, sexual and affective education programmes, initiatives to boost physical activity and healthy nutrition, and gender-based violence prevention—assess the impact of integrated interventions and co-design collaborations between health services and third-sector organizations. Special focus is placed on equity in care access for LGBTQIA+ populations, individuals with limited autonomy, and incarcerated groups.

Finally, innovation in socio-healthcare delivery models is explored through the transition from “Case della Salute” (Health Houses) to “Case della Comunità” (Community Houses), the introduction of the Family and Community Nurse (FCN) role, and the design of matrix organizational systems that integrate territorial health services with hospital networks. Impact evaluations and implementation-process analyses elucidate the conditions necessary to maximise both effectiveness and scalability.
