Marco Carati

Adjunct Professor at the University of Bologna, at SACMI he works on competitive intelligence, intellectual property and innovation in the Rigid Packaging Technologies Division, a field in which the company is a global leader.

A Mechanical Engineer with a Ph.D. in Chemical and Materials Engineering and a Master in Technology Innovation Management, for 5 years he was Mechanical Design Manager in SACMI’s PET injection molding Business Unit, leading the mechanical design of a new range of high-performance machines. He also worked on business development at SACMI Corporate Academy.

His research interests include innovative robotics and machines, metal-polymer adhesion, metallurgy and energy production, with a focus on sustainability. He spent research periods at Yale University and the University of Edinburgh. He is the author of scientific publications, including in Nature Machine Intelligence, and co-inventor of an international patent.

Since 2026, he has served as a City Councillor in Imola.
