Marcello Calogero received his M.A. (2016) and PhD (2022) in History of Art from the Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa. In 2024 he received the ASN (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale) for associate professor of History of Art (10/B1).
He was Jane and Morgan Whitney Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts, 2019-2020) and Samuel H. Kress Fellow at the Drawing Institute - The Morgan Library and Museum (2020-2021). Between 2022 and 2023 he was research fellow at the Fondazione Federico Zeri - University of Bologna.
In 2020 he co-curated (with Alessandra Giannotti) at the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna an exhibition titled Alfonso Lombardi. Il colore e il rilievo.
His main research interests are the history of Italian sculpture in the 15th and 16th centuries, the intertwined history of art, politics, and patronage in the same period, and the exhibitions of early-modern art in the XXth century.
He is the author of several articles and essays published in journals and edited volumes. His first book is titled Alfonso Lombardi e i materiali della scultura (Trento, 2024).
