Maddalena Giannella

Full Professor of Infectious Diseases at the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences, University of Bologna, and infectious diseases consultant at IRCCS Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna. She graduated in Medicine from Sapienza University of Rome, where she completed her residency in Internal Medicine, and obtained a PhD in Clinical Microbiology from Complutense University of Madrid. From 2008 to 2012, she worked at Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón in Madrid. Since 2013, she has been an infectious diseases consultant and member of the antimicrobial stewardship team at Sant’Orsola Hospital in Bologna. She served on the Executive Committee of the ESCMID Study Group for Bloodstream Infections, Endocarditis and Sepsis (ESGBIES) from 2016 to 2022 and has chaired the ESCMID Study Group for Infections in Immunocompromised Hosts (ESGICH) since 2023. She is Associate Editor for Infectious Diseases at Transplant International.
