Short Bio

Luisa Cifarelli is Full Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Bologna.

Her research interests have always been in very high energy subnuclear physics in major European laboratories such as CERN, Geneva, and also in astroparticle physics at INFN LNGS, Gran Sasso.

She has served in several councils, committees and commissions, she has been a member of the CERN Council, of the INFN Board of Directors and of the Scientific Council of CNRS. She has been President of the Italian national research institute Centro Fermi, of the European Physical Society and of the Italian Physical Society (SIF). She is currently a member of the Scientific Council of JINR and Honorary President of SIF.

She is Fellow of the UK Institute of Physics and of the American Physical Society (APS). She is Past Chair of the APS Forum on International Physics and past member of the APS Committee on International Scientific Affairs.

She is a member of the Scientific Committee of Centro Majorana (EMFCSC) and a member of the Academia Europaea. She is a “Benedictine Academician” of the Accademia delle Scienze di Bologna and member of the Executive Board of the Accademia.
