After graduating in History of restoration of cultural heritage at University of Bologna, he worked at the Cultural Institute of Emilia Romagna Region. Fellow at the Roberto Longhi Foundation in Florence began his academic career teaching Museum and History and Theory of Restoration at the University of Bologna. In the following years he dedicated his researchs on the history of conservation and safeguarding of works of art with particular attention to ancient frescoes and contemporary mural paintings like the works of Graffiti-writing and the Street Art (in specific he is an expert in the restoration and detachment of paintings from the wall).For five years he was a research fellow at the Department of Cultural Heritage of University of Bologna while carrying out his PhD at the University of Siena. He has published numerous essays on the history of the restoration, conservation, collectors and collections, and protection of works of art in Italy in books and magazines. He taught History and theory of restoration at the University of Florence and at the University Cattolica of Milan. In December 2021 became curator of the Museums of University of Bologna.
