Lorenzo Peretto is Full Professor of Electrical and Electronic Measurements at the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering of the University of Bologna – Italy.

- He is currently Coordinator of the Electric Vehicle Engineering Master Program, at the University of Bologna,

- From 2018-2021 he was Coordinator of the Degree Course in Electrical Energy Engineering in Bologna

- He has been appointed by Italian CEI to the IEC TC38/WG37 "Instrument Transformers" and currently he is actively working to the new Standard Series IEC 61869 "Voltage and rrent Transformers".

- He is Convenor of JWG55 IECTC38 / IEEE-IMS "Uncertainty Evaluation in Calibration of Instrument Transformers".

- He is Convenor of the IEC TC38 WG45 "Mathematical modeling of Instrument Transformers".

- His fields of research are: calibration and characterization of voltage and current sensors used in power network and power system applications; measurements and diagnostic in power applications;; uncertainty propagation and evaluation in measurements in power systems; signal processing of electrical quantities.

- He is Senior Member of the IEEE and member of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society.

- Since 1998 he is serving at the University of Bologna as a consultant for electrical & electronic industries operating in the field of sensors and instrumentation in power systems.

Work experiences and Key achievements

Till today

  • General Co-chairman of the Annual IEEE Workshop Applied Measurements for Power Systems (AMPS), since 2010.
  • He is Chairman, Session Organizer and belongs to the Technical Program Committees of IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conferences (I2MTC).
  • He is Instrumentation and Measurement Society representative in IEEE Smart Grid steering committee.

    2015

  • Associate Editor for the Special Issue of IEEE Transactions on instrumentation and Measurements related to scientific papers presented at the IEEE Applied Measurements for Power Systems Workshop (AMPS).

    2014

  • Secretary of the graduate program in “Electrical Energy Engineering” at the University of Bologna. He coordinated the exchange students Erasmus program till 2015
  • Chairman of the TC39 of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society "Measurements in Power Systems" (since 2009)
  • IEC representative inside the Working Group 1 of the Joint Committee for Guides in Metrology (JCGM) at the BIPM for the review and update of the Guide to Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM) and the relevant Supplements
  • He has been chairman of the Research Section of GMEE (Italian Electronic and Electrical Measurements Group) "Measurements and methods for Quality Assurance in Processes" (since 2012)

2012

  • Active member of the IEEE working group for Standard IEEE 1459-2000 "IEEE Standard Definitions for the Measurement of Electric Power Quantities Under Sinusoidal, Nonsinusoidal, Balanced, or Unbalanced Conditions"
  • He has been invited to chair and coordinate a Panel Session "Power system islands, autonomous microgrids and relevant instrumentation" to the IEEE-PES "Innovative Smart Grid Technology" Conference (ISGT), Washington DC
  • He has been invited as Keynote Speaker at the "Testing and Measurements" International Conference in South Africa in 2012 titled "Smart Grids: Definitions and Measurement Issues"

2007

  • He has been invited at the IEEE General Annual Meeting of PES (Power Engineering Society) to give a lecture “Measurement problems in power systems under distorted conditions”

2006

  • He received the Best Paper Award "Advanced Internet-based multimedia tool for the education in instrumentation and measurements activities"

2004

  • Special Session organizer at IEEE IMTC: "Electric Power Quality Measurements and Relevant Uncertainty Estimation"
