Lorenzo Chiarofonte received his PhD at SOAS University of London. He conducts research activities in ethnomusicology and Asian musics, with a particular focus on possession music and dance in central Burma/Myanmar, theater and music in the courts of Southeast Asia, religious and ritual soundscapes, performance analysis, popular music and media practices. He has also conducted fieldwork research in Central Java and Sulawesi (Indonesia) as well as in Chiang Mai (Thailand). He collaborates with the Intercultural Institute of Comparative Musical Studies (IISMC) of the Giorgio Cini Foundation (Venice), with the international journal Analytical Approaches to World Music (AAWM) e with the italian journal of ethnomusicology Etnografie sonore/Sound Ethnographies.
