Curriculum vitae

Lidia Strigari is Head of the Medical Physics Department at IRCCS Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna. Her clinical and scientific activities mainly focus on medical physics applied to radiotherapy and nuclear medicine, radionuclide therapy, radioembolization, quantitative imaging, artificial intelligence, and clinical radiobiology.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

She obtained her degree in Physics at the University of Calabria with a final grade of 110/110 cum laude and subsequently completed her postgraduate specialization in Medical Physics at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, with a final grade of 50/50 cum laude.

She subsequently completed advanced training in hadron therapy and stereotactic radiotherapy, statistics applied to biomedical sciences, and healthcare economics and management. She obtained a PhD in “Advanced Technologies in Biomedicine” at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, cum laude. She also completed a management training course for Heads of Department.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER

Since 2019, she has been Head of the Medical Physics Department at IRCCS Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna, where she coordinates clinical and research activities in radiotherapy, radionuclide therapy, radioembolization, quantitative imaging, artificial intelligence, and clinical radiobiology.

From 2009 to 2019, she was Head of the Laboratory of Medical Physics and Expert Systems at the IRCCS Regina Elena National Cancer Institute in Rome. From 2003 to 2009, she worked as a medical physicist at the same institution, with activities including radiotherapy treatment planning, radionuclide therapy, radioembolization, quantitative imaging, advanced statistical analysis, and the development of clinical radiobiological models.

From 2012 to 2019, she also served as a Qualified Expert in Radiation Protection at the Istituti Fisioterapici Ospitalieri in Rome.

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

Her research focuses on the development and validation of radiobiological models to investigate dose-response relationships in radiotherapy, stereotactic body radiotherapy, brachytherapy, and theranostic treatments, including the assessment of biological factors and biomarkers.

Her scientific activity also includes nuclear medicine dosimetry, quantitative imaging, radioembolization, artificial intelligence applied to imaging and therapy, and the development of quantitative methodologies supporting treatment personalization.

She is the author of more than 360 scientific publications indexed in Scopus and has a Scopus h-index of 46.

TEACHING ACTIVITY

Since 2019, she has been involved in postgraduate teaching at the University of Bologna in Medical Physics, Radiotherapy, and Nuclear Medicine.

From 2004 to 2019, she taught at the Postgraduate Specialization School in Medical Physics at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.

INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEES

She is a member of the EFOMP SIGFRID Steering Committee and of the AI-Dosimetry Task Force of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI).

From 2009 to 2020, she served on the EANM Dosimetry Committee, contributing to scientific publications and guidelines. She has also been a member of the EANM Radiobiology Working Group and of the MIRD Task Group on the “Radiobiological Reference Human”.

She served as a member of ICRU Report Committee #31 and contributed to ICRU Report 96, “Treatment Planning for Radiopharmaceutical Therapy”.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

She has participated as principal investigator, co-leader, or partner in several national and international research projects.

Projects listed in her curriculum include the COST Action “RATIONALE – Radionuclide Theragnostics for Personalised Medicine”, the Horizon Europe project “SYNTHIA – Synthetic Data Generation Framework for Integrated Validation of Use Cases and AI Healthcare Applications”, the European Joint Action “JANE-2 – Joint Action on Networks of Expertise on Cancer”, the “HOPE4Kids” project, and the COST Action “Open Network on Discrete Element Method (ON-DEM)”.

PATENTS

She is co-author of international patents, including PCT/IT2014/000147 and PCT/IB2016/052002.
