Short Bio

Licia Proserpio is Adjunct Professor and Research Manager at the Department of History and Culture – University of Bologna.

She has an interdisciplinary background in social sciences with a focus on anthropology, education, development, and civil society. Her researches are based on fieldworks across Asia and on qualitative methodologies.

In 2024, Bristol University Press is pubblishing her first book "Resistance through Higher Education -
Myanmar Universities’ Struggle against Authoritarianism" based on her PhD research.

She is collaborating with archaeologists on community engagement in heritage projects, mainly in Iraq and Uzbekistan. She is also part of a research project lead by UCL on the impact of the university rankings in East Asia.

Her current research interests focus on access and participation in higher education for forcibly displaced students and universities as safe spaces in South and Southeast Asia.

As Research Manager, she supports academics in drafting competitive research projects and is currently managing a portfolio of 30+ projects including ERC, MSCA, Horizon Europe, ERASMUS +.
