Short Bio

Licia Proserpio is Junior Assistant Professor at the Department of History and Culture, University of Bologna (Italy), and teaches at the School of Liberal Studies and Humanities, UPES (India). She has an interdisciplinary background in the social sciences and her research focuses on education policy, social movements, and civil society, with particular attention to Asian contexts. In 2024, Bristol University Press published her first monograph, Resistance through Higher Education: Myanmar Universities’ Struggle against Authoritarianism. Her second monograph, When Classrooms Drown: Climate Vulnerability and Poverty in Pakistan, co-authored with Marie Lall (UCL), will be published by UCL Press in 2027. Her current research examines access to and participation in higher education for refugee and displaced students and the role of universities as safe spaces in South and Southeast Asia. She is Principal Investigator of the project areUsafe – Are universities safe spaces?, a multi-sited ethnographic study on the higher education journeys of displaced people in the region.
