  • Since 1999 he has published 26 books or book chapters and 328 scientific papers in extenso, of which 297 in journals indexed in Medline / Scopus and 127 as the first or last author (total impact factor 1225; more than 11.300 citations as of May 2026; Scopus H-Index: 64; Scopus Id: 9943483200; ORCID Id: 0000-0002-8129-9344). He is coauthor of the 4th edition of the Oxford Handbook of Public Health Practice, and associate editor of Frontiers in Public Health – Infectious Diseases: Epidemiology and Prevention; PLoS One.
  • Since 1997 he has worked on 43 research projects (in 29 of them as the P.I. or unit head), funded for a total of approximately $ 32,356,000 ($ 28,506,000 as P.I.). In 2007, his project ranked first among the 1250 projects presented at the Italian call "Young Researchers". In 2015, one of his studies won the Ferenc Bojan Award of the European Public Health Association.
  • The main fields of research concern preventive medicine (especially vaccines), epidemiology of chronic, non communicable diseases (especially cardiovascular), big data analysis in healthcare, and healthcare quality assessment.
  • He is currently the teacher of more than 10 courses of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Healthcare Management and Hygiene at the University of Bologna, Italy. He teaches or has taught for more than 3 years at several Master or PhD programs at the Catholic and Sapienza Universities of Rome, University of Chieti-Pescara (15 years), University of Ferrara (5 years), and Bocconi University of Milan. Student's evaluations has constantly been excellent, with peaks at the Bocconi University during 2013 and 2014 (average grading of 9.15/10 by foreign students).
  • Nov 2018-Nov 2021: Dean of the Degree in Sciences of Healthcare Professions at the University of Ferrara.
  • 2018-2021: Director of Master Programs in Healthcare Professions Management at the University of Ferrara, in collaboration with Veneto or Emilia-Romagna Regions.
  • Three of his post-graduate students (Maria Elena Flacco, Lorenzo Capasso and Cecilia Acuti Martellucci) obtained the National scientific qualification as associate professors within two years after the end of their residency program in Public Health. Prof. Flacco won the European Public Health Association Young Investigator award in 2015, and is currently full professor and director of the Residency Program in Public Health at the University of Ferrara. Prof. Acuti Martellucci has been hired as assistant professor of Public Health at the University of Bologna.
