Józef Legierski is a PhD student at the Doctoral School in the Humanities at Jagiellonian University and Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna. A graduate in theatre studies, he researches contemporary theatre and performance, focusing on the concept of reactive theatre a creative model that responds to social, political, and cultural crises while artistically engaging with the erosion of democratic institutions.
His work integrates memory studies, gender and queer theory, and decolonial perspectives to examine how theatre can challenge dominant narratives, activate collective memory, and amplify marginalized voices. Interdisciplinary and socially engaged, his research positions theatre as both a space for critical reflection and a tool for civic participation and democratic renewal.
Beyond academia, he develops and participates in artistic and community-based projects that connect performance with public debate, activism, and social change.
