Joerg Schweizer, is an Electrical Engineer, graduated
1993 at the Technical University of Darmstadt http://www.etit.tu-darmstadt.de, Germany. He has a
strong background in control- and system theory as he completed a
Masters of Engineering Science at the University College Dublin [http://www.ucd.ie/], Ireland in 1994.
During his PhD at the Federal
Institute of Technology Lausanne, Switzerland, he extended his
theoretical knowledge to communication-systems and coding. From
1999-2002 he developed circuits for ultrasound-based navigation
instruments and a measurement system for micro-sensors at the
National Microelectronic Research Centre (now Tyndall National Institute),
Ireland. Since 2000 he is developing micro-simulator software for
Personal Rapid Transit systems. In 2003 he joint DICAM at the
University of Bologna and started working on Personal Rapid Transit
(PRT)
as a Marie-Curie funded project on sustainable transport. He
participated in numerous European and national research projects.
He is has been consulting the world's first PRT projects to be
realized at Heathrow Airport and Masdar, Abu Dhabi.
Since 2006 he is a full time researcher at the Engineering
faculty, University of Bologna, Italy. His main research interest
is microsimulations of multi-modal networks with activity based
demand, as well optimization of automated guided public transport, called Personal Rapid Transit (PRT). He is
teaching courses in Transport System Design and Planning, which is part of an international dual
degree Masters programme civil engineering. He is also teaching microsimulations in the
infrastructure and transport laboratory. Joerg Schweizer is member
of the Advanced Transit Association (ATRA).
