Cross-border cooperation on borders and in border areas within the context of European integration processes. Approaching the European integration processes from the “edges” perspective offers an innovative method to understanding of its motives, dynamics and the future. This perspective covers the phenomena of debordering and rebordering, cross-border governance, European integration on the micro-scale, as well as cross-border cooperation in Europe. Border twin towns are spatial spots where, following the concept of “integration laboratory”, interdisciplinary research reveal significant regularities.

Integration and disintegration in relations between the EU and its Eastern neighbors. Combining traditional EUropean integration studies with UE external relations analysis, and Central and Eastern European studies paves the way for better understating both the relations between the EU and its Eastern neighbors, as well as internal dynamics of states and (sub)regions on the Eastern outskirts of the European Union as well as behind its eastern border.
