Research activities
Use of analytical pyrolysis coupled with gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (Py-GC-MS) to study polymers of environmental interest.
- Characterisation of synthetic polymers and biopolymers, using unreactive pyrolysis or derivatisation techniques (methylation, silylation and acetylation).
- Development of thermoanalytical methods for the identification and quantification of polymers and emerging contaminants (nano and microplastics, bioplastics, siloxanes, UV-filters) in food and environmental, biological and complex matrices.
- Investigation of interactions and secondary reactions between co-pyrolysed polymers, in the context of nano and microplastic pollution.
- Use of analytical pyrolysis to recognise bioplastic materials, as a support for the study of chemicals released from them into seawater.
- Characterisation of polyethyleneimine structures and investigation of their pyrolytic behaviour after oxidation processes.
