Inês Mateus holds a Master’s degree with honours in Marine Sciences from the University of Milano-Bicocca. Her thesis focused on the role of sea ice in modulating freshwater accumulation within the Beaufort Gyre, a large-scale anticyclonic circulation in the Arctic Ocean. Her main research interests lie at the intersection of numerical ocean modeling and machine learning applied to physical oceanography. She is driven both by a desire to contribute practical tools for communities facing climate-related challenges and by a deep curiosity about ocean dynamics. Currently, she works as a research assistant developing hazard maps for oil pollution in the Mediterranean Sea using the MEDSLIK oil spill model.
