After his PhD, his research career begins with a Post-Doctoral position at the Universita' di Pisa, then with a Junior Faculty position (Akademischer Rat) at the Albert-Ludwigs Universität in Freiburg Im Breisgau (Germany), and finally at the University of Sussex, with a Lecturer position that later evolved into a Readership and eventually into a Professorship. He started as full professor at the Università di Bologna in 2023. His field of research is high-energy physics. His focus is on finding manifestations of phenomena beyond those predicted by the Standard Model of Particle Physics in high-energy proton-proton collisions. His research activity involves both data analysis and development of new particle detectors.
Long-standing member of the ATLAS Experiment at CERN, he works together with institutions from Europe, Borth America and Asia for defining new worldwide collaborations to eventually build the next generation of collider experiments.
