Prof. Dipl—Ing. Heike Hanada – born 1964 Grafschaft Hoya - is a German artist and architect. She grew up on the countryside in Toggenburg / Switzerland and Oberschwaben / South Germany. She studied architecture at Hochschule der Künste Berlin and Tokyo Daigakku. In 1997 she founded Hanada+ in Tokyo and in 2007 heike hanada_laboratory of art and architecture in Weimar. Today she works as an artist and architect in Berlin.
In 2007, she won the first prize in the public international competition for the extension of the Asplund Library in Stockholm, which brought her work to international attention. This was followed by numerous awards, exhibitions and competition wins. In 2018, she was appointed to the Chair of Building Typologies at TU Dortmund. In 2019, she received the Thuringian Architecture Prize for the new Bauhaus Museum in Weimar. In 2022, she received the Rome Prize of the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo. In 2023, she was appointed as a member of the Class of the Arts at the North Rhine-Westphalia Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts. 2025 she re-opend Kunst Museum Winterthur Reinhart am Stadtgarten.
