Short Bio

40th cycle PhD student in Earth, Life and Environmental Sciences (STVA) at the University of Bologna.

My work investigates hydrogen-rock reactions that can generate water in the deep crust and upper mantle. Using high-pressure piston experiments, we can quantify production of redox-related water, hydrous minerals, and light hydrocarbons from anhydrous starting materials. Analytical methods, including gas chromatography and carbon isotope analysis, will be used for comparison with natural samples representative of anhydrous settings. With implications for transport of volatiles at depth, seismic and mantle melt triggers, and origins of water, this geochemical experimental approach aims to constrain how H2-fluids control the water budget of crustal or mantle rocks.

The Supervisor of the PhD project is Prof. Alberto Vitale-Brovarone, head of the DeepSeep Research Group.
