Curriculum vitae

Dr. Guilherme Rizzoto, born in Brazil, obtained his degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPEL) in 2015. During his academic training, he carried out research activities as an undergraduate trainee in reproductive physiology at UFPEL and FURG, focusing particularly on male fertility, testicular thermoregulation, and the effects of heat stress on domestic animals.

In 2014–2015, he was an exchange student at the University of Calgary (Canada), where he later completed his PhD in Veterinary Sciences in 2020, with a thesis dedicated to testicular thermoregulation and the impact of hyperthermia on spermatogenesis. He subsequently held postdoctoral research positions at São Paulo State University – UNESP (2021–2022) and, from 2022-2025, at Ghent University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Reproductive Biology Unit.

Alongside his research activity, he has an extensive teaching background as a collaborating professor in several postgraduate programs in Brazil (UFPEL, UNESP, IFSUL), where he teaches Animal Reproduction, Molecular Biology applied to reproduction, and Scientific Writing.

His scientific activity includes over 40 peer‑reviewed publications in international journals, focusing on reproductive physiology, sperm quality biomarkers, the effects of heat stress on fertility, assisted reproduction technologies, and in vitro embryo production. He has supervised master’s and undergraduate students and has been invited to present his research at international seminars in Canada, Hungary, and Brazil.

He is a member of several national and international scientific associations, including the Association for Applied Animal Andrology (AAAA) — where he serves as Vice president— the European Society for Domestic Animal Reproduction (ESDAR), the Brazilian College of Animal Reproduction, and the Brazilian Association of Animal Andrology.
