Associate Professor at the University of Bologna since 2024, Giuseppe Calignano has held research and teaching positions at internationally recognised institutions including the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Stavanger, the University of Vienna, and Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, where he served as Full Professor of Regional Development.
His research lies at the intersection of Economic Geography, Innovation Studies, Regional Development, and Sustainability Governance and Transitions. He investigates innovation systems, knowledge networks, territorial development, governance, and processes of socio-economic transformation, with particular attention to sustainability transitions, regional futures, social inclusion, agency, power relations, and collective action.
He collaborates with several European research institutes and academic networks and has published in leading international journals including including Regional Studies, Geoforum, Growth and Change, Journal of Rural Studies, Science and Public Policy, and Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy and Society.
