Giulia Neccia is a Neurophysiology Technician at the IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences of Bologna, AUSL Bologna, where she carries out both clinical and research activities in the field of sleep medicine. Her professional work is mainly focused on neurophysiological diagnostics, with particular expertise in polysomnography, daytime vigilance tests, and neurophysiological monitoring for the diagnosis and assessment of sleep disorders.
Education
She graduated with honours (110/110 cum laude) in Neurophysiopathology Techniques from the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. She subsequently obtained a Master's Degree with honours (110/110 cum laude) in Diagnostic Healthcare Professions from the University of Ferrara.
Her postgraduate training was further enriched by a post-graduate internship at the Sleep Recording and Polygraphy Laboratory of the IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences of Bologna.
Professional Experience
Since 2021, she has been employed as a permanent Neurophysiology Technician at the IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences of Bologna, AUSL Bologna.
Previously, she worked as a Research Healthcare Professional and as a Neurophysiology Technician within research projects focused on sleep medicine.
Her clinical practice includes the acquisition and analysis of polysomnographic recordings, video-polygraphy, prolonged sleep-wake monitoring, Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests (MWT), cardiorespiratory monitoring, actigraphy, and electrocardiography, with particular expertise in the evaluation of sleep disorders and central disorders of hypersomnolence.
Research Activities
Her research activity focuses on sleep medicine, with participation in numerous national and international clinical studies on Narcolepsy, Central Hypersomnia, and other sleep disorders. She serves as Study Coordinator in multicentre pharmacological clinical trials and collaborates with research groups at the IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences of Bologna as well as with other Italian research centres.
She is co-author of scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals and has presented oral communications at national and international conferences in the fields of sleep medicine and clinical neurophysiology.
Teaching Activities
She is involved in teaching activities within the Bachelor's Degree Programme in Neurophysiopathology Techniques at the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, contributing to the education of undergraduate students in neurophysiological diagnostic techniques and sleep medicine.
