Giulia Bortino

Giulia Bortino is a PhD Candidate in International Law at the University of Bologna and a Joint PhD researcher at KU Leuven (Belgium). Her research examines the protection of endangered World Heritage sites within the framework of International Law. She is supervised by Prof. Elisa Baroncini, co-supervised by Prof. Attilio Nisco, and supervised at KU Leuven by Prof. Bert Demarsin.

She graduated in Languages for International Relations, with a thesis on alleged human rights violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories - focusing on the Separation Wall-, and subsequently obtained a Master's degree in International Cooperation on Human Rights and Intercultural Heritage, specializing in International Cultural Heritage Law and Sustainable Development.

She has gained professional experience through an internship at the Consulate General of Italy in Jerusalem and an Erasmus traineeship at Europa Nostra in Brussels.

Giulia is a member of the International PhD College of the Collegio Superiore at the University of Bologna and a participant in UNA-HER-DOC, the Una Europa doctoral programme in Cultural Heritage.
