My currently research develops along several lines:

- The study of socio-economic determinants of  electoral participation and choice such as income variables, family composition and social context, exploiting data on the city of Bologna.

- The economic analysis of socio-economic events, in particular the development over time and space of institutions (political, social, religious) in Europe in the last millennium, studying the economic mechanisms that lead to the evolution of the institutions themselves and their long-term effects.

- The study of the socio-economic determinants of international migration choices, in particular those related to the recent migration waves from Africa to Europe.

- The study of the impact of multinationals on local development in Africa, job participation, demographic development and family organization.
