Giovanni Borriero graduated in Literature (Romance Philology) in 1993; got a PhD degree in Italian and Romance Philology at Padua University in 1997; and a second PhD in Langue et littérature médiévale at the Université de Poitiers, in conjunction with Verona University in 2011. Research and academic education have been carried out in France (Paris and Poitiers) and in Spain (Malaga and Santiago de Compostela).
Previously, he taught Romance Philology at Ferrara University in 2005; Italian Philology at Trieste University in 2008, Romance Linguistics in 2001 and Galician Language and Literature from 2008 to 2015. He also taught Romance Philology in Padua, where he directed the Centro di Studi Galeghi from 2011 to 2023. He taught series of seminars, single university classes and PhD lessons in several Universities, taking part in national and international research projects (TLIoN, LIO, Transmédie, CAO). He was the winner of Progetti di Eccellenza for Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo in 2007 with a project called AtLiVe - Atlas of the Literature of Medieval Veneto. Moreover, he presented works at several meetings and seminars in Italy and abroad. He also organized various national and international meetings.
He is co-director of the journal
Francigena, part of the series “Zattera di Pietra” (Cleup); and of the series “Finisterre” (Carocci). He is a member of the scientific board in
Madrygal.
