Giovanni Bonacina studied at the University of Milan, where he graduated with honors in philosophy under the guidance of Livio Sichirollo. He then went on to the University of Turin, where he earned his PhD under the guidance of Luigi Marino. Since 2023, he has been a full professor of history of philosophy at the University of Bologna, after having held this position for a long time at the University of Urbino. His interests include the history of modern and contemporary philosophy, the philosophy of history, the theory and history of historiography, the history of philosophical historiography, the history of political philosophy, and the history of religions and voyages of exploration. He is a member of the «Internationale Hegel Vereinigung», the «Società Filosofica Italiana», the «Società Italiana di Studi sul Secolo XVIII», and the steering committee of the «Società Italiana di Storia della Filosofia». He is also a member of the steering committee of the «Giornale Critico della Filosofia Italiana».
