Short Bio

Giorgio Pirina is a research fellow in the sociology of work at the University of Bologna, where he is working on the research project Di-GROWTH – Sustainable Digital Growth in the Digital and Platform Economy in Italy, with a particular focus on the data centre industry. His research interests are primarily concerned with the exploitation of human and environmental resources along production chains, with specific attention to the role played by new technologies. In particular, he has examined labour and socio-ecological transformations in platform capitalism. On these topics, he has authored two monographs: Global Connections. A Study on Labour in Platform Capitalism (2022, Franco Angeli) and Digital Noxiousness. On the Labour–Ecology Nexus (2025, Edizioni Ca’ Foscari).

From 2022 to 2025, he was engaged in research on territorial inequalities in Italy. In this regard, he co-edited the volume Territorial Inequalities in Italy (2025, Edizioni Ca’ Foscari).

Since 2023, he has been Managing Editor of Inequalities – Journal of Critical Inequality Studies.
