Giorgia Modenini is a PhD student at the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Bologna. Her research focuses on the role of Transposable Elements in the evolution of the human cognitive traits and is based on genomic samples from patients with Schizophrenia or Alzheimer’s Disease.

She has always had a passion for biological evolution: in fact, her high school thesis covered the impact of the Theory of Evolution by Charles Darwin on society.

Giorgia has started her academic career with a BSc in Natural Sciences in 2017, with a thesis on museology. Subsequently, she gained her MSc in Biodiversity and Evolution in 2019, with a thesis on the evolutionary relationship between non-LTR retrotransposons (a type of transposable elements) and schizophrenia.
